S.E.M. is Awesome

Never heard of SEM? – It’s an acronym for Scanning Electron Microscope.

In fact all of the close up pictures of fleas and bed bugs that you have seen are from using an SEM to examine the microscopic world around us.

Using SEM’s to look at things has given scientists a greater understanding of the microscopic world and an even more amazing fact is that the Scanning electron Microscope was invented way back in 1937 by German born Manfred von Ardenn.

Just Google-ing “SEM images” will give you an amazing insight into just how awesome this technology is and trust me we i say,  you be amazed at what you see.

Now we just have to wait for someone to make a home version so we can all marvel at the microscopic worlds that surround us.
